How to choose between Excavators and Positracks
Posi Track Sunshine Coast
There are two options when it comes to digging machines, the Posi track and the other the excavator. These machines both dig however they do have differences and it is important that you understand the components of each machine to know which one is right for you.
Excavators
These machines can be rotated and operated at a full 360 degrees thanks to the cab connected underneath. Excavators can range in sizes from small machines used mainly for projects including residential landscaping to mammoth machines used for mining and construction. Excavators can also operate in relatively tight spaces due to the fact that it has the ability to turn 360 degrees and that most of its operations can be done while the machine is stationary.
Positrack
Unlike the excavator, a posi track does not have an independant cap underneath allowing for a greater range of motion. Instead the posi track is more fixed. This means that in order to operate, the posi track needs more moving room. In fact there is a 160 degree difference turning radius of both machines as the positrack can only turn 200 degrees either side. If working on a site wide enough for the machine to move this is not a problem. Posi tracks also tend to be the cheaper of the two options.
Which one is best for me?
This depends on the size of your worksite. If your worksite is large enough for the posi track, this can be a great option due to cost and functionality. However if the worksite is more complex or quiet small, the excavator is your best bet as you can choose between small excavators or large specialised excavators.
